The opportunities for tennis in Yarrawonga are immense and the YLTC aims to cater for the needs of all members and visitors.
The range of programs are impressive for a small club and all community members are encouraged to come and check out what is on offer.
The YLTC holds social aggregate style tennis at four different times during the week. Each of these events provide the opportunity for new players to come and trial tennis prior to committing to becoming a member.
The main aggregate night is Friday night and this will kick off on Friday, October 13. Arrive just before 6pm and enjoy a relaxed competition catering for all standards.
The other times where anyone can simply sign-in on the day are Saturday at 1pm for all players, Tuesday morning commencing at 9.30am for the ladies and Wednesday at 9.30pm for the mens social hit.
There is no compulsion to attend each of these on a weekly basis although once you have tried it once it will be hard to not keep going back.
Commencing on October 14, the Saturday morning program will hit the courts. Catering for players aged from 5-16 there are a range of different options.
Hot Shots is designed for tennis novices where the fundamentals are taught on smaller courts with a strong focus on hitting lots of balls. Coaching is the next phase where participants are taught the technique around each of the shots and especially the all-important serve.
Match play is the third and final component of Saturday morning where the players are guaranteed three sets each morning.
Juniors of this level benefit from the squad program which is held on Thursday afternoons. Squad is overseen by experienced Club Coach Greg Duns. Greg provides a range of drills to ensure stroke and tactical development.
Greg offers mid-week group coaching on Wednesday and Friday afternoons for juniors. These are very popular. Greg also provides individual lessons on request to really refine your game.
Tennis is a challenging sport to become proficient at and juniors benefit most from mid-week coaching coupled with Saturday morning match play.
Last year Greg initiated a Monday morning ladies coaching program designed for novice players. This was very popular and will return in late November.
These mornings will be filled with laughter and socialising with some tennis whacked around the courts.
The YLTC also holds midweek teams events which run from early November until March. These competitions are for men on Tuesday nights and ladies on Thursday nights. Both events commence at 6pm with three sets of doubles played.
Players enter individually and are placed in teams. This ensures that players have close matches every week. They are very social evenings and a great way to catch up with a range of people on a regular basis.
If you are keen to enter a team for a shorter competition, then Fast Four Wednesday is for you.
This was an initiative by the club and was extremely popular last year. There will be two totally separate competitions.
One competition will be for four weeks in November and the other for four weeks in February. Teams consists of 4 players and is great fun.
For more serious and committed players the YLTC is very keen to continue its representation in the Goulburn Murray Tennis Association.
Over the past few seasons the club has entered a side in Division 2 of this competition. Names are being taken and a decision on the division a team will enter will be dependent on the players that are interested in playing.

The local Wilby Tennis Association commences on Friday, October 13. This competition has the powerhouse local hamlets of Burramine, Mulwala, Savernake, Telford, Tungamah and Wilby battling on the court each week.
Each team comprises of four men and four ladies. Each player participates in four sets of tennis each week. A range of abilities and ages play each week and this has been this competition has been the breeding ground for some of the district finest players over many decades.

To continually provide an outstanding facility there has been a slight increase in membership fees. They are still great value for juniors the cost is $100, $140 for adults and for $280 there is the opportunity for all family members to enjoy tennis for 12 months of the year.
