Mathoura suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Tungamah in round 16 of Picola and District League football at Mathoura Recreation Reserve.

The Cutters required victory to keep any hopes of a finals appearance alive but were dominated by the Bears at every turn, going down by 120 points.

Tungamah kicked clear early in the contest after kicking four goals to one in the opening term.

Seven unanswered from Tungamah in the second put the game beyond doubt by half-time.

Mathoura stemmed the bleeding in the third, matching the Bears’ two majors to two in the third, but Tungamah closed out the game with another seven-goal barrage in the final period.

Aron Burns, as he has so often this season, led the Mathoura goalkicking list with two, while Luka Simpson was the only other Cutter to score a major.

Mathoura’s A-grade netball side has continued to struggle, going down to Tungamah by 38 goals.

The Cutters made a modest start against the Bears but a scoreless second period doomed them to a heavy defeat.

Tungamah piled on goals in the second half to run away 50-12 winners.

A trip to Jerilderie (4-9) looks to be the Cutters’ (3-11) best chance to score another win in the last two rounds.
