It was a tough day for the Hoppers who travelled south over the border to take on a strong Katunga outfit.
Katunga were relentless from the outset scoring six goals in the first quarter and leaving Rennie scoreless.
It didn’t get better for the Hoppers who conceded a further eight goals in the second quarter.
A better effort in the second half only allowed Katunga to add a further eight goals.
The Hoppers will be hoping for a better performance this weekend at home against Blighty.

It was another clear yet brisk morning as the young Hoppers made the trek out to Katunga to take on the young Swannies.
It was a day of jobs for the young Hoppers with many of the boys being given goals to achieve by the end of the game.
Maddox Oughton was back to his dominating best picking up possessions at will and hitting his targets.
Zack Briffa was superb with his repeat efforts. Ollie Legudi was tackling hard.
Archie Wilson was showing great attack on the footy. Tom Bruce displayed tremendous resilience and was at the bottom of every pack.
Special thanks go to Katunga for a great, spirited contest and for lending the Hoppers a couple of players each quarter to make it a fair and enjoyable game.

A Grade

Rennie was feeling a bit anxious and flat coming into the game, as they knew Katunga had beaten the top of the ladder the week before.
Coach Kayla had faith in her team and their ability and pushed them to fire up and believe in one another and boy did they deliver.
Right from the first whistle, it was clear this game was going to be a ripper with Laynee Rhodes thinking she was Labron James and flying high into the sky for some just out-of-reach balls and a heavy hit on the ground; you knew the intensity and belief had begun. 15-year-old, Sophie Coghill was a standout, not only holding her own against experienced and strong women but elevating her game beyond theirs.
Our defenders, Brylee McCarty and Eliana Martin, did an amazing job against high-quality goalers, which Katunga rotated a lot; this told us that our defenders were doing their job, keeping them uncomfortable and not as accurate as we are used to seeing.
Stepping up into A Grade again this week, Georgia Phillips did a Stella job after playing a full game in B Grade, putting hands over pressure on every ball and assisting with bringing the ball down the court. Heleena Shaw, Brooke McDougall and Laynee Rhodes worked their backsides off all game; their teamwork is so warm to watch; they back each other up every step of the way and hunt down any ball they can.
With 4 minutes to go in the last quarter Rennie were 2 goals up.
The Swannies upped their pressure, causing a couple of forced errors, and were able to get one goal in front. The ball was headed back down to our goalkeepers with ten seconds to go a lob was thrown into our ever-ready and reliable goalie, Paula Mifka, who wasn't awarded the free, resulting in the one-goal loss.
Paula's communication during the game was top-notch, and she stood tall all day and worked hard for the ball. This should give our girls the belief that when you work hard for your team anything is possible. Today still very much feels like a win

B Grade

It was a tough battle on Saturday when the Rennie Hoppers faced off against the fiercely competitive Katunga.
From the outset it was clear this game was going to be hard-fought with Katunga applying significant pressure and a fast pace from the very beginning.
A strong defensive display by Georgia Phillips, Jess Barton and Annie Robilliard this week with rebounds and forced turnovers providing the team with crucial opportunities to shift the momentum, however Katunga’s accurate shooting and reactive defence kept them ahead.
Zoe Mckenzie and Lucy Bassett worked hard in the goal ring to utilise the space whilst also providing strong leads down the court. B grade showcased great teamwork and should be proud of their ability to adapt their game.

It was a strong start for our C graders this week against Katunga. Going in with nothing to lose all the girls gave it 110% in the first quarter and were only down by 5 going into the first break.
Our defence was strong, but the Katunga goalies were very accurate leaving it hard to get too many rebounds. Mid courters continued to work hard to move the ball well, chase any loose balls and apply pressure down the court. Our goalies didn’t give up and continued to move well in the circle and put the goals up and chase their rebounds.
The final score didn’t reflect the quality of the game as our girls never game up and fought right until the end. Special thanks to Alani and Mabel for stepping up to play C grade this week, they were adaptable and made an impact throughout the game whenever they stepped on court.

The C Ressie Legends dove into Swan Lake like Olympic divers ready to ruffle the Swannie's feathers.
The Swannie's got off to a cracking start slotting some beautiful goals leaving Jae 'Fruit picker' Lonergan and Gail ran off their feet. The second quarter saw the C Ressie Legends start to find their groove.
Trucker Long and Lauz tore it up in the midcourt causing peak hour traffic chaos for the Swannie's attack, forcing them to work harder than a traffic controller holding a 'stop/slow' sign. Shez 'Ricky D's' McBurnie was having a blinder in the WA posi, charging around the mid-court and directing play like a seasoned professional.
As stated early in the season 'change is sometimes as good as a holiday' and our favourite holiday player Mykie was back to be our saving grace once again. Stepping into GD and giving the Katunga goalies hell as they tried to feed and work the ball into the ring. Coach Amy 'the goat' Smith, dusted of her dress and joined the team out on the court giving Shez 'Ricky D's' McBurnie a well-deserved break.
The final quarter saw the C Ressie Legends come out guns blazing and determined to keep Katunga just within reach.
The sewing club was back in full swing but this time in goals together. It was like final needlework out there, with Illa and Tegan moving the ball and slotting goals in the most clean and precise manner.
Whilst our dive into Swan Lake was not worthy of a judge's 'W' and we did not qualify for the Paris Olympics, we take to the other version of Sawn Lake tonight at our annual ball.
Where I can almost assure anyone watching the dance moves will not be similar to Ballet.
Onwards and upwards for the C Ressie Legends. We look forward to heading home to our happy place of Hopperville and welcoming Blighty next week.

The cold, frosty morning felt like a perfect day to stay in bed, but not our u17 hoppers; they were super eager to get to the swan's Pond for some fiercely competitive netball.
First quarter was goal for goal, the Katunga defenders were amazing which put pressure on our shooters, but having such a versatile team we made some changes!
The second quarter the girls came out firing and got a 12 goal lead!
Little pocket rocket Dem had one of her best games yet. She was unstoppable. She had multiple turnovers throughout the mid-court, and on the balls she didn’t intercept, her fingers got to the ball. With all the running she did in our game, I don’t know how her little legs were still fine to umpire!
Today, our team played an amazing team game; they all adjusted to one another, they didn’t drop their heads, they encouraged each other , and they cheered each other’s achievements throughout the game!
Everyone in our team today got an award today because everyone put in 100% and didn’t give up all game! But our top award went to Demi she absolutely deserved it

Rennie took on the lower-placed Katunga; however, with a few key players out, a tough match was expected. Shooters Jasi and Sienna worked beautifully together in our attacking end scoring some amazing goals.
Midcourters; Ruby, Michelle, Mim and Mia were amazing at creating space, and adjusting after getting put in a variety of positions. Missing two of our main defenders saw Charlotte come back into defence with Tess.
It was like she never left! The defence end created lots of pressure and turnovers, which were rewarded by the rest of the team. It ended up being a great game with Rennie running away with it in the last quarter.
Coach Illa was glowing as she headed off to be the Belle of the Rennie Ball. We hope her and Amy both had a great night!

With having quite a few sick throughout the week the girls pushed through and played well, utilising the subs to start and transitioned well into their positions. Our defensive pressure was great and has definitely improved over the last few weeks. Our mid court did well clearing space and bringing the ball down the court with efficiency and our goalies continued to move well and work together to get those goals.
