Matches were in three different venues and by all reports there was a heap of fun had by all.
The match of the round was between Telford and Tungamah Green at Yarrawonga. These teams are tipped to be playing off in the Grand Final.
In the mens Tungamah were ruthless winning all four sets with Josh Buerckner, Tom Wren, Jamie Hicks and Xavier Chessells in great form. Telford fought back in the ladies with a 4 sets to 2 win with Sandra Banks best on court.
The mixed was a fantastic battle with each team winning 2 sets before Tungamah home by 2 games. Overall Tungamah Green won by 10 games to take the points 6 to 2.
Burramine visited Tungamah Gold on the banks of the Boosey Creek. Each team had extra players with many substitutes allowing ten players in both teams under the age of 18 to have a hit.
In the mens section Burramine’s combinations played well to win 5 sets to 1 with junior Wil Anderson winning all of his matches. In the ladies the result was the same with young guns Tess Bassett and Lara Angwin both undefeated.
With many combinations tried in the mixed Burramine came out on top despite the debut of Cooper Beggs for Tungamah. Burramine won the night on games and claimed the 8 points.
Mulwala Maroon hosted Savernake at Lonsdale Reserve. Savernake’s mens combined very well to win 4 sets to 2. Neil Hemphill wound back the clock to dominate the courts winning all of his sets.
In the ladies section Mulwala bounced back strongly to win all of the sets. Kerry Lyons, Monica Leith, Megan Norrish and Vicky Martin all hitting the ball nicely. Mulwala finished the night by winning the mixed section. Overall Mulwala Maroon won on games and the points 6 to 2.
Due to long weekend Mulwala Gold were unable to put a squad together meaning Wilby claimed the points from their match.
After round 4 the ladder is Tungamah Green 24, Wilby 24, Telford 20, Burramine 20, Tungamah Gold 14, Mulwala Maroon 13, Mulwala Gold 11 and Savernake 2.
This week Burramine host Savernake, Tungamah Gold will take on Mulwala Gold, Tungamah Green will welcome Wilby and Telford play Mulwala Maroon to finish off the round.
Thursday ladies competition
Perfect conditions allowed a fantastic night of tennis for the Thursday ladies. The tennis was played in great spirits and a large contingent of players reflected on the deck at the conclusion of the night.
Paddle Pops and Frosty Fruits had a sensational battle with each team winning 3 sets before the Paddle Pops were awarded the night by 5 games. Leia Lewis was the best on court being undefeated.
Calippos and Splices were evenly matched before Calippos snuck away to win 4 sets to 2. Tess Bassett displayed her class winning all of her matches.
Lifesavers proved too strong for Zooper Doopers winning each of the 6 sets. Win Win Htwe, Lara Angwin, Laura Nunn and Samantha Webster all combining very well.
The match of the night was between Barney Bananas and Bubble-o-Bills. At the end of the night skippers Angela Mitchell and Zoe Jones couldn’t split the teams as it was 3 sets all 27 games all. Youngster Kiera Buerckner was the star winning all of her matches.
In the final match of the night Hearts defeated Drumsticks 4 sets to 2. Junior Olivia Lewis was the best as she was undefeated on the night.
The ladder after round 2 is Lifesavers 15, Hearts 14, Calippos 12, Paddle Pops 11, Bubble-o-Bills 9, Sunnyboys 7, Drumsticks 6, Barney Bananas 6, Splices 3, Frosty Fruits 3, Zooper Doopers 2.
Play will continue this Thursday. There are quite a few players away this week so fill-ins will be needed.
Saturday morning juniors
After a break over the weekend for the long weekend, this weekend the juniors will be keen to get back on the courts again.
Just a reminder that players in matches need to register by 8.50am. at the tournament box.
Tatura 30+ doubles tournament
The fourth tournament of the North East Veterans will be held in Wodonga this Sunday. Players are encouraged to enter as a fantastic day is ensured.
Tuesday mens tennis
The Tuesday Mens competition will begin on Tuesday, November 8. Organiser Ash Wheaton has locked in 13 teams which is an increase of 2 teams on last year. The final draft picks and ironing out of salary cap issues is underway.
The teams will be distributed over the next few days.
