Willett’s silver lining in Cypress World Cup event

“I was then out in fourth place after missing a couple in the medal match,” Willett told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.

“The following day Laetisha Scanlan and myself won the silver medal in the Trap Mixed teams event. “We managed to make it through to the top six semi-final after qualifying and then we progressed to the gold and silver medal match after making our way through the semi-final.

“The gold medal came down to a sudden death shoot-off with the team from Turkey but unfortunately we were beaten.”

It was some of the coldest conditions Willett has shot, with hail and cold strong winds over a couple of the days competing and also snow on one of the days.

“The weather for March is usually mild but a local shooter mentioned they have never seen snow at this particular range,” Willett said. “But that’s part of our sport we have to compete in whatever is thrown our way.”

He is currently training and preparing for the NSW State Championships in Sydney on the weekend of April 9 and 10 which is also a selection event for his World Championship team. It’s then off to the Italy World Cup the following week.

“It’s great to be back competing overseas,” Willett said. “The world ranking system has changed slightly it seems, so I am currently fourth in the World in Men’s Trap after this performance.”
