Round one of the Winter Comp kicked off on Monday night with the Badass crew taking on the Kilmore Cobras at the Broadford Hotel.

The Cobras, undefeated in the summer season, entered this match in excellent form but also as an unknown quantity.
The Cobras started strong, taking a 3-1 lead and looking comfortable in A-grade, putting Badass on the defensive.
Badass composed themselves and won the next four games to regain the lead, putting pressure back on the Cobras. Badass proved too strong, winning 7-4.
Anthony Wallis banged in five pegs for the home team and fired in three tons, two 121s, a 125 and a 132. Peter Myles scored six straight tons and a high peg of 79, Gary Power hit two tons and a 121 and Christine Lorenz nailed high scores of 102 and 111.
Rob Davon was the star of the show for the Cobras, closing out the night with five tons and a 140. Rohan Clancy slipped in two tons and a 123, Crystal Bird pounded in a 121 and Josh Read sneaked in a ton.
The Pirates faced the Kings at the Commercial Hotel in the second match of the night. Their past four meetings were close and this one was no different, ending 6-5 with the Pirates winning.
There were plenty of highlights for the Pirates, with Zane Kilroy finishing the night with five pegs to his name, as well as throwing four tons, a 121 and two 140s. Seth Kilroy shared the spotlight with his brother after banging in a 180 with his first three darts of the night. He finished with another three tons and a 131. Steve Kilroy nailed four tons and two 140s, Dan Kilroy scored a ton and a 120 and Andrew Harrison snagged a 121.
The Kings’ Rob Welsh was dominant in the doubles, finishing the night with five pegs all while throwing a ton, a 120 and his first 180 this year. Congrats Welshy!
Adam Lynch finished the night with six tons, a 110, 125 and a 129, Terran Crispin smacked in a ton, a 120 and 121 and Anthony Bohlmann slipped in three tons and a 120.
The revamped Golf Club Aces faced the new team, the Amigos. The Amigos dominated, winning 10-1.
Mark Jones was the standout for the home side, with the stand-in captain securing the team’s only victory as well as throwing two tons. Daniel Chandler snagged a high score of 117 and Greg Holcombe made a return to the oche with a ton and the team’s highest finish.
The Amigos’ highlights included five tons, a 117, 125, three 140s and a 180 for Torin Helmore, Mark Robinson scored two tons, a 121, two 130s, four 140s and a 144, Darren Withoos scored five tons and a 138 and Shan Collings scored a ton, a 103, 125 and a 140.
The first B-grade game of the night was at the Royal Hotel. The Royal Rascals, still upset from their summer final loss, sought redemption against the Tiger-neers, a merged team of Pyalong Tigers and Pyalong Buccaneers.
The Rascals took control of the match from the outset, with the Tiger-neers taking a little while to warm up in their first match of the year. The Rascals won six of the first eight games to seal the deal, but the Tiger-neers will be looking forward to next week after finishing with a wet sail and winning four of the last five games.
Belinda Reid top-scored for the Rascals with a 134, Noel Whittling snagged a 105 and Aaron Peacock banged in a ton.
Mark Ruddick was the top scorer for the Tiger-neers, smashing in four tons, while Mitch Wittig registered five finishes as well as throwing a high score of 120.
The Kilmore Convicts hosted the 26ers at the Royal Oak Hotel in Kilmore. The 26ers, new to the league, were an unknown quantity, making this match intriguing.
The Convicts got the jump early, winning the opening two team games, but the 26ers levelled the scores with back-to-back wins and they kept their foot down to take the lead 4-3 heading into the reverse singles.
But the more experienced Convicts were able to steady the ship, winning three of the remaining four games to sail home to a 6-5 hard-fought win.
The Convicts captain Peter Browne was the top scorer for the home team, finishing with a ton and a 140, and Eoin Flynn smacked in a high score of 121.
The 26ers’ El Capitan Dave McGrath stole the show with five finishes which included a round-high peg of 134. He also nailed high scores of 138 and two 121s. Brian Ward fired in a ton and a 116, Matt Burrows hammered in a 111 and Sharon Ring slotted a ton and a 120.
The final game of the round was also held at the Broadford Golf Club, with the Marauders going toe-to-toe with their arch-rivals the Jacarandas.
The Marauders took an early lead, going up 5-1. The Jacarandas fought back with two wins, but the Marauders secured a 7-4 victory, earning their first four points of the season.
The Marauders did not have any triple-figure scores to report, but Daniel Butler has the team’s highest finish with a peg of 40.
The Jacarandas highlights included a match-high score of 138 to Cory Ritchie, Katharine Boardman snagged a 110 and high peg of 49 and Jose Mason banged in a ton to round out the highlights for round one of the Seymour District Darts Association’s Winter Comp.
