The EC Griffith Cup with its big hydroplane boats has been the event's signature attraction over the decades, but it continues to grow in popularity alongside a carnival-like atmosphere with the Foreshore Fair, and again this year an aerial display by the current Red Bull Air Race World Champion Mat Hall set to attract thousands of people over three days.
In recent decades, the event, which for the first time this year includes the National Driver’s Championship (round 2), has been proudly held with the assistance of the fantastic partnership between the Victorian Speed Boat Club (VSBC), Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business as well as major supporters such as the Mulwala Water Ski Club.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business (YMTB) Executive Officer Noel Wright said large crowds of people swarmed to the Yarrawonga foreshore for this rejuvenated event over the last few years.
“We are planning now for another big event, and the economic benefits will hopefully come again as we expect our new additions to add significant visitor numbers to the already large crowds that flock to the Yarrawonga foreshore,” Mr Wright said.
“There will be a market, sideshow alley and thrill rides for kids of all ages, a selection of food vendors, a licenced bar for 18 plus and some great static displays.
“The three-day event will have a charge to enter this year to help recoup some costs, but it will again be a great opportunity for families all over the region to enjoy the festivities and watch some exciting boat racing on the vast foreshore.
“The inclusion of the aerial show will again bring interest as Matt is the current Red Bull Air Race World Champion and a former Royal Australian Air Force top gun fighter pilot.
“It will be a business bonanza for Yarrawonga Mulwala across the Anzac (unofficial) long weekend where we expect to see a lot of people take the Friday off after Anzac Day to visit the region over several days.”
The 2024 Yarrawonga Powerboat Spectacular and Fair will again see Lake Mulwala play host to a full schedule of races for a variety of boat classes over the three days.
There are also exclusive VIP tickets for sale where you can witness all the action from the best seat on the foreshore on the top deck of the Paddlesteamer, The Cumberoona.
